Tracy’s Automotive on Maple Street will make sure your car is ready for that July 4 road trip.
Well, here we are at the start of the biggest holiday of summer. And this year, it is likely to be especially big because many will take it as a four-day weekend.
AAA certainly expects the roads to be busy. The agency is predicting that more people will travel by car than ever before.
“This July 4th weekend is expected to set a new record for the number of Americans traveling by car for the holiday. AAA expects 43.2 million people will drive to their destinations, an increase of 2.4% over 2022 and 4% higher than 2019,” according to AAA.
Crowded, hot roads can mean stressful driving especially if your car isn’t fit to make the trip. A broken down car far from home is no fun but might be avoided with a bit of pretrip planning and care. That means you should check your car for possible problems and get them fixed before you hit the road. If you can’t or don’t want to do the check yourself, then it is time to get the auto care experts at Tracy’s Automotive do the work.
Those checks should include your tires, oil and engine.
“Prepare your vehicle. Schedule a multi-point inspection to get a good snapshot of your vehicle’s overall condition. A trained mechanic can let you know of any maintenance issues to fix before they get worse (or more expensive),” Erie Insurance Group says.
“Check your tires. Before you leave home, inspect the condition of your tires and inflate them to the pressure recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer. If your tires are low on tread, replace them before you hit the road. You can check by using ‘the penny test.’ Just insert a penny upside down into a tread groove. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, it’s time for new tires.
“Change your oil and top off fluids. Road trips can rack up the miles on your car in the span of just a few days. Look ahead to preventative maintenance, like oil changes, that may come due while you’re traveling. Check all of your vehicle’s fluid levels too. That includes windshield washer fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid and power steering fluid. Top them all off as needed.”
