Road Trip Ahead? | Wichita Auto Care

If you’re planning a road trip soon, make sure your car is ready for the journey.

It might be hard to believe, but July 4 is just around the corner. It’s not going to be the typical July 4 around Wichita with Red, White & BOOM cancelled because of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Red, White & BOOM isn’t the only event that’s been cancelled, or that could be cancelled.

The cancellation of local events as well as the cabin fever resulting from months of social distancing may make a July 4 road trip even more enticing. Of course, travelers need to be aware of possible closures at their proposed destination. Even so, the road beckons to many.

If you’re planning a road trip – even a day trip just to get away for a few hours – you need to make sure your car is in good shape. Car trouble is never fun and it can be especially difficult on holiday weekends. But, with the pandemic, it’s even less clear what businesses will be available to help you if something does go wrong.

“Car trouble can bring your road trip to a screeching halt and may leave you paying for unexpected repairs. While it’s important to conduct regular car maintenance according to your manufacturer’s recommended intervals, you may also want to have certain aspects of your vehicle checked out before a road trip,” Allstate insurance says. “Even though you can’t prevent every mechanical breakdown, it may help reduce the possibility of spending valuable vacation time in the repair shop.”

Among the items you should check, or have checked, before heading out of town: battery, belts and hoses, top of fluids and replace filters, make sure your lights and electrical equipment are working, check your brakes, and inspect your tires.

Allstate reminds, “Taking steps to help ensure your vehicle is in good condition prior to a road trip may help you avoid spending your vacation in a repair shop. Remember, if you’re uncomfortable inspecting your vehicle or aren’t sure if something is wrong, consult a professional for help.”
